Alexis Washam, CSW-A

Therapist at Abri Psychotherapy

Alexis (she/her) is a Clinical Social Work Associate who works with teens and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflict, grief and loss, and navigating major life transitions. She received her MSW from Portland State University, where she was trained in a range of therapeutic modalities, and she is currently in training as an RO-DBT clinician.

Alexis spent her internship placements working closely with college students from a range of backgrounds and ages, in a community college setting at Clark College in Vancouver, WA, and counseling undergraduates and graduate students at PSU. Prior to pursuing her MSW, Alexis worked in community settings supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault.

Originally from the Philadelphia area, Alexis has an undergraduate degree in English literature and creative writing, and she spent eighteen years in New York City building a successful corporate career as a book editor, where she was most recently an Editorial Director at Penguin Random House. She identifies as overcontrolled, and has found that practicing RO-DBT skills in her own life have made a profound difference in how she approaches the world. She strives to bring warmth, humor, open inquiry and honest communication to her relationships with clients.

Alexis moved to Oregon to be closer to her extended family and because she was drawn to the natural beauty and culture of the Pacific Northwest. When she’s not working, she enjoys hanging out with her family, watching her kids play sports and music, reading novels, practicing yoga, and exploring her new home state.
