Ashlyn West, LPC

Ashlyn West, LPC

Therapist at Abri Psychotherapy

Ashlyn West (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Body Trust® Provider Candidate. She works with adults of all ages and genders, and adolescents (16+). She comes from a background of working with eating disorders at a higher level of care treatment centers. She has a passion for working with individuals whose relationship with their body and self has been impacted by systemic oppression, trauma, and expectation.

Ashlyn’s approach to care aims to meet clients where they are at and work collaboratively towards goals of improving quality of life. She aims to provide a space where clients can honor the coping that has allowed them to survive while building a space of trust and collaboration to honestly evaluate where the clients are stuck. From a trauma-informed and social justice-oriented lens, she utilizes person-centered, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, feminist approach, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to create space for insight, healing, and change to occur. She is currently intensively training and being supervised in RO-DBT. As someone who is over-controlled (OC), she is drawn to working with RO to serve the clients who are so often seen as doing “fine” and provide a space for permission and healing.

Ashlyn is originally from Idaho, but came to Portland for undergraduate studies at Concordia University and fell in love with the city. She earned her master’s degree in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology from Bastyr University. This integrative degree program uniquely explored the complex relationship between mind, body, and self. She is currently pursuing Body Trust® Provider certification through The Center for Body Trust where she has had the privilege of learning from many activists/educators at the forefront of various liberation movements. Ashlyn is a nerd who enjoys learning, reading, and games (of the PC or table-top variety). She can typically be found at home with her partner, and a gaggle of animals.
