Lidziya (Lida) Rubanava

Therapist at Abri Psychotherapy

Lidziya (Lida) Rubanava (they/them/any).

I believe that healing happens in relationships with ourselves, with others, and with the communities we’re a part of. My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity. I strive to create a space where all parts of you are welcome, especially the parts that have felt misunderstood, excluded, or told they were “too much” or “not enough.”

I work with individuals, couples, and people in all kinds of relationship structures. My clinical interests include: trauma (PTSD, and complex trauma or c-PTSD), sexuality, intimacy, identity exploration, and interpersonal dynamics. I offer sex therapy and couples counseling for monogamous and consensually non-monogamous relationships, and I am affirming of kink, BDSM, and diverse expressions of sexuality and gender.

I earned my Master of Social Work degree from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work and bring a social justice-informed lens to my clinical work. As a queer, non-binary, neurodivergent immigrant, I understand firsthand how systems, cultures, and expectations can shape our sense of belonging. I am passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ clients and others who have historically been marginalized or harmed by healthcare systems. My goal is not to help you fit into someone else’s definition of wellness, but to support you in building a life that feels authentic, embodied, and sustainable for you.

I particularly enjoy working with creatives, artists, performers, and others whose work involves imagination, vulnerability, and self-expression. Therapy should be a place to explore the intersections of creativity, self, other, and mental health without having to leave parts of yourself at the door.

My therapeutic style balances depth with practicality. I love a good worksheet, value psychoeducation, and believe humor can be a powerful tool for healing in the context of a strong therapeutic relationship. I also work from a harm-reduction perspective, especially around psychedelic use, recognizing that meaningful conversations about risk, safety, and personal values are often more helpful than judgment.

Outside of therapy, you’ll likely find me rolling dice at a Dungeons & Dragons table, practicing yoga, or at a live music event. My playlists range from folk singer-songwriters to EDM festival sets because nervous systems are complex and need different things at different times.

You don’t have to fit neatly into a box to belong here. Whether you’re navigating trauma, relationship challenges, questions about sexuality or identity, or simply trying to feel more connected to yourself and others, I would be honored to support you in that process.
